Handy Car-Washing Tools And Products

If you want to get your vehicle sparkling clean and shiny but don't want to spend money at a car wash or by having it professionally done, you can do it yourself at home. As long as you have a space to wash your car, such as a driveway, you can make your car look as good as new using a few tools and products.

If you plan on washing your vehicle yourself on a regular basis, consider investing in some accessories that will make the job more convenient, and allow you to do a more thorough job. You may even be able to purchase a car-washing starter kit full of the necessities, and then add to it with specialty products as you go.

Here are some tools and products that you can use to give your vehicle a professional-looking wash and wax at home:

1. Car-Washing Bucket

One of the most important items that you'll need is a durable car-washing bucket to hold the soapy water. Look for one that features a filter on the bottom to trap pebbles and other small debris, which may damage your car's paint finish if they get caught in your sponge.

The bucket should hold at least six gallons of water and have a sturdy plastic handle for easy transport. Some buckets also feature lids to prevent the water from splashing out as you carry it.

2. Microfiber Wash Pad

Look for a soft microfiber wash pad that is designed to hold a large amount of soapy water at one time, so that you're able to clean large sections of your car without having to go back and forth to the bucket. The extra moisture will also allow the pad to glide easily and safely over the paint finish.

For extra convenience, choose wash pad mitts that fit snugly over your hand.

3. Microfiber Mop

Choose a mop that features a microfiber head and an extendable, telescoping pole so that you're able to to clean hard-to-reach areas of your vehicle. Look for a mop featuring a stainless steel pole, which will last longer and resist rust.

4. Wheel Well Brush

Because a thorough car wash includes cleaning the tires, you'll need a wheel well brush in your tool arsenal. The strong-bristled brush will allow you to scrub caked-on dirt, mud and grime off or your tires, wheel wells and lower valances.

Pick a brush that is at least 20 inches long and features a slightly angled handle, so that you can easily reach tight spaces.
